ABOUT ME
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked for 9 years as a history and French teacher in Vancouver and Montreal public schools, eventually working as a union rep. In this work, I got to see firsthand how social and economic systems make so many people’s lives more difficult than they need to be and got lots of satisfaction from working alongside students, their families, and other teachers to make the everyday just a little bit more manageable.
As a counsellor today, I believe therapy and healing do not exist in a vacuum and should be informed by the realities of the society in which we live. Modern life brings many wonders, but also many challenges. We are living through what many call an epidemic of loneliness, where people are finding it increasingly hard to connect with others to build social connections and relationships we once took for granted. For many, economic uncertainty, workplace stresses, the threat of climate change and experiences of systemic oppression take a serious toll on our mental health. It is with these realities in mind that I approach counselling.
When not in the therapy room, I’m on my bike, playing music with friends, trying out new recipes or reading sci-fi novels :) .
